Week 15 Highlights

WOW! What a GREAT WEEK we had! The Peterson and Huisken Families came to visit for a few days and it was loads of fun! For about 5 days we were here together taking in the sights of Nauvoo – visiting the historical sites and learning all about those who lived here a long time ago. Some of the favorite sites were Pioneer Pastimes where everyone dressed up as pioneers, learned to walk on stilts and played old Nauvoo games, the Schoolhouse, the Browning gun shop and, of course, the Skoville bakery. (Yum)

Kylie, Marcus and Jolie were able to do some proxy baptisms on Monday morning, then Debbie, Brad, Jill and Todd were able to join us as Mom & I officiated a session, then had the time to take them around and show them the temple.

We all walked down Parley Street and read the excerpts from Pioneer journals telling about their feelings as they left this city that they loved. We looked at the names that have been placed on the Pioneer Memorial where Parley Street meets the Mississippi. We also visited Joseph Smith’s red brick store where so many significant events took place. We went to Carthage and saw where the Prophet Joseph and his brother were killed. We took a trip to Hannibal, Missouri and saw where Mark Twain’s characters, Tom Sawyer, Becky Thatcher and Huckleberry Finn lived and took a tour through the caves where Tom got lost with Becky. Back again in Nauvoo, we watched the “Sunset by the Mississippi” program and the amazing Pageant. We learned how things were done in the 1840s at the Pioneer Family Living building and the kids enjoyed partici- pating in the games and activities that were available at the pre-Pageant program.

We were very thankful that we were able to spend the time with them on our P-day and before and after our regular temple shifts. We really enjoyed this short time with them and it made us realize how much we have missed everyone. We really appreciate all of you and all you do to make our time here so worry-free.

OK. Who’s’ coming next week?

We love you all.

All is well

Love,

Mom & Dad / Granny & Grandpa

Wow! What good looking people came to visit.:) Hope your downstairs neighbors are still speaking to you. We had a VERY fun time visiting your neck of the woods. It's already August - not much time left!
